Fished at what the locals call 'The Point' or Avon Lake Point yesterday with Tom in his 14 footer. Was a perfectly clear amazing day and we found the shipwreck buoy easily and fished around the perimeter. We were targeting walleye, but they didn't start hitting until later as it was getting dark. In the time between I landed an 11 lbs channel cat and the biggest sheephead (freshwater drum) I've ever caught in my life! It was a monster! And it took all my strength to get that hook out of its leather tough mouth after finally landing it. Had neglected to bring along wire cutters on this adventure, something I keep in my kayak dry box just in case I hook myself and have to cut the hook tip to slide it out of my face or whatever. Caught a lot of fish, but only 2 eyes in the end. Was a good fishing day.
